Every day dozens of nuke websites are hacked and defaced. Sooner or later, unless you take some precautions, yours is likely to be one of them.

Fortunately, most hackers simply prove their point, deface your site, and move on. A real mess of course, but you can normally recover quickly. However, a minority do worse. Not nice at all.

So what can be done?

I suggest the following:

1) Patch your Nuke system. Go to www.nukefixes.com and download the latest version of the security patches by Chatserv (2.4 as I write this).
2) Unzip it to a folder
3) Upload the files/folders over your copy of Nuke (backup the original first of course)
4) Lock down your admin.php. There are various ways of doing this. Go to www.nukecops.com and explore the options

However, what if you are in the following scenario:

Help! I've Been Hacked!

Chances are the hacker has created at least one extra administrator. I'd recommend the following:

1) Use PHPMyAdmin empty the nuke_authors table. This will get rid of all administrators
2) Go to www.yourwebsite.com/admin.php and enter just like you did when you first installed nuke. Use a new admin id and password.
3) Now that you can get in nuke as the only administrator, you can clear up whatever mess was made.
